Why I share my story

Anytime you begin something new, be it a job, business, hobby, sport, relationship, or whatever, it is always said to “find your WHY.” This is what keeps you focused, driven, and on the track for a goal. Finding your why is not necessarily the hard part of goals, it is maintaining that as your focus when obtaining your goals.

For me, my why is my boys- my two children, and my husband. Being the mother and wife they need me to be. This is why I will continue to share our story with everyone, and never stop advocating for them.

It is without a doubt that through prayer, I have been given the opportunity to share our story and given the confidence to speak and share our experiences.

I first shared my story with my bible study group, Women of the Chapel, and just last week I was blessed with the opportunity to share my story on a live recorded podcast. The experience of sharing my story has been amazing. After the first person that reached out to me to tell me how much my story meant to her, I felt truly blessed. This was followed by several others reaching out. All this time I never thought MY story would help someone else. I have quickly learned, this is what I should do-use OUR story to help others!

So… this podcast, y’all, was AH-Maze-ing!!! The event and venue were absolutely gorgeous. I cannot thank Susan and Katie enough for blessing me with this opportunity. Here, the two of them before the night kicked off. I love these ladies so much!

I have never done something like this, speaking, recording, and really opening up to share our story. As Miss Katie called it a “Old Fashioned Radio Hour.”  I love this, because when we were planning this and sitting at her kitchen table (which is where these are usually recorded) she mentioned that the microphone they use is huge and in your face, and I picture an old fashioned radio microphone. We didn’t use these for the event last week, but that is what I pictured.

But for picturing this event, let me describe this place for you…or you can check out the pictures, because they’re stunning as well. The Glasgow Farm in Stafford, Virginia is this adorable green barn that is used for weddings and well now, awesome live events. The two storied, and the all wood interior gives the great atmosphere of hearing every footstep around in the barn. Draped with several individual lights gives the ambient glow, perfect for a warm May evening.

Y’all, the tables were decorated with gorgeous flowers and hand cut moss. The atmosphere definitely helped settle the nervousness I was feeling. Such a charming, and welcoming setting.

Oh, and Cupcakes!

The podcast, She Speaks Stories, with Susan and Katie is several episodes of stories of women. I know that doesn’t tell a ton, but each story is so unique, and there is truly something for everyone. You will have to go check them out and subscribe yourself.

The theme of this episode (#12 if you want to jump right to it) is Resiliency, and in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day last week, this episode highlighted three military spouses and their stories. Miss Katie, herself, is a military spouse. The event was partnered with our local group of Military Wives Connect, a large group of faith based military spouses. This group was started by Carrie, who is actually the one who first encouraged me to share my story, and to never STOP sharing my story. Carrie is pictured here with Miss Katie.

I will have to share a whole post of the amazingness of this group. In the meantime, check out the podcast, subscribe, and I cannot wait to continue sharing OUR story.
